After a busy day at work, the last thing many of us want to do is come home and cook dinner. Putting the slow cooker on before you go out means that you always come home to a tasty meal that’s ready when you are.

Slow cooker recipes are easy to follow and are pretty much just pre-cook any meat and chuck in everything else.

You don’t have to have a huge family to use the slow cooker either. It’s ideal if it’s just you or you need to feed a lot of people at once.

The great thing is that you can also up the recipe if you suddenly have more guests. For example, throwing in more kidney beans or beef stock can make the recipe go further.

  1. You really can just chuck everything in. Think chopped tomatoes, red peppers and chilli powder can all go in together and be left.

          4. You can even use your slow cooker to help with your batch cooking. Make an extra serving or two then freeze it for another day.

This slow cooker chilli recipe can be made for up to 8 people by adding extra chopped tomatoes. Remember that this may knock the spices out though so do taste at the end and add some dry smoked paprika or an extra tbsp of tomato pasta if you think that it needs it.

This slow cooker chilli con carne below is made for 4 people. It can be frozen when cool and split for different days. Try taking a batch for lunch instead of your normal meal.

Slow cooker chilli con carne ingredients

  • 1 15oz Can Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 8oz Can Tomato Sauce
  • 1 15oz Can Chili Beans
  • 1 6oz Can Tomato Paste
  • 1lb Ground Beef
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 TBSP Chili Powder
  • 1/2 TSP Cayenne Pepper
  • 1/2 TSP Salt
  • 1/2 TSP Pepper
  • Onion
  • Cheddar Cheese

Chilli con carne slow cooker recipe instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in frying pan and place drained cooked beef in the crockpot.

           2. Add chili beans, tomato paste, tomato sauce, salt & pepper.

           3. Pour in beef broth.

          4. Sprinkle in the chili powder and cayenne pepper.

          5. Stir and cover.

         6. Cook for 3hrs on high. 6hrs on low.

         7. Shred cheddar cheese and dice onion while chili is cooking.

         8. Once chili in done, serve in a bowl. Sprinkle cheese and onion on top & enjoy.

If you’re a more seasoned slow cooker user but haven’t fell in love with yours yet then why not try:

  1. Spraying the bottom layer with Fry-Lite or another non-sticking spray. This makes it easier when you go to wash it up or put it in the dishwasher.
  2. Cooking on a higher heat, even when it’s suggested can sometimes make the meat tough. Most slow cookers high heat ranges to around 275F and the lower setting is around 165F. Keep this in mind when you set the heat.
  3. Liner bags for your slow cooker can make cleaning it a quick job if you’re time poor.
  4. You don’t need fresh vegetables or herbs. Use frozen or dry herbs as they taste just as good. Remember that adding frozen vegetables does bring the temperature down though.
  5. Add all your root vegetables to the bottom. It’s warmer there meaning that there is a better chance of them cooking through evenly.

Ingredients
